Pag, Island of Pag
The town of Pag is located in the southern part of the Pag Bay.
The town of Pag is rich in cultural and historical monuments. The most important buildings are the Congregation of Mary's Assumption Church, the Rector's Palace and the Tower Skrivanat - the only one remaining of nine towers that were, along the walls, used to encircle the city. Besides these buildings there are the church of St. George, the church of St. Francis, monastery of St. Margaret and the old salt storehouses. Kilometers from the city center is the archaeological area of Old Town with the Church of St. Mary and the ruins of the Acropolis.
The most important industry town has is tourism. Unlike other island tourist resort Novalja, which emphasizes fun at Zrće, Pag primarily wants to become and is becoming the cultural center
of the island. Pag has around 10 000 tourist beds, and during the summer season in Pag resides more than 100 000 guests who earn more than one million overnight stays. Most tourists stay in private apartments and rooms, some in the campsites, while others are filling hotel facilities. In the city of Pag are also known “Paška solana” (saltern), a leader in the manufacture of salt pans of sea salt in this part of Europe, “Paška sirana” (dairy), which produces native cheese, and one of the most popular features of the town is definitely lace – “Paška čipka”, which is under UNESCO protection.
